World-class research for a healthy start to life

The Liggins Institute was founded with a vision to establish a multidisciplinary medical research institute committed to biomedical and clinical research of an international standard in areas of major importance to human health. Our current research encompasses fetal and child health, growth and development, evolutionary medicine and breast cancer. We have a strong focus on investigating the impact of maternal and child nutrition on long term health and the epigenetic processes that mediate these effects.

Our goals
  • to advance human health
  • celebrate scientific discovery and achievement
  • conduct and communicate research of the highest international standard
  • attract, develop and retain quality staff and value their contribution
  • promote the knowledge society and technology transfer
  • foster an innovative, intellectual, collegial and multi-disciplinary culture
  • support the mission of The University of Auckland
  • demonstrate a strong commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi.
